A child born in Germany has a "very rare genetic mutation" that boosts muscle growth. Cool. Apparently this is the first documentation of a human born with the same condition as the Mighty Mice of Johns Hopkins, whose myostatin on-switch was turned off, and who gained fame and fortune bending horseshoes and whatnot.
Of course, this promises to be BIG biz, not just for people with muscle-wasting conditions like muscular dystrophy, but also for athletes (who needs steroids?). And eventually, one must assume, the wanna-be parents of future athletes.
There's a longer article in the NY Times, but it requires registration.
